Computer Science (CS) is a discipline that involves the design and development of software systems and applications. It ranges from programming and practical applications in software system engineering, to algorithm design and artificial intelligence..

The breadth of computer science is all encompassing. It is an interdisciplinary field with roots in mathematics and engineering and applications in many diverse areas. Programming is but one aspect of computer science, and computer scientists work to solve multifaceted problems. Some may be working with engineers or managers to develop and deploy software systems, while others may be involved in research and development for science and medicine. Computer Science provides an excellent training in problem solving and analytical thinking, which are important skills that will serve you well throughout your career.

The BS provides a technical exploration of computer science and is excellent if you plan to pursue advanced study in this area. The BS programs in Computer Science are accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET; http://www.abet.org.

The M.S. prepares its graduates for all areas of the field, whether it’s maintaining legacy systems, construction of secure software systems and tools to endure integrity of data and networks, or designing the newest smartphone apps and virtual reality applications. Students develop an understanding of the theories underpinning effective software and algorithm design.

The Ph.D. in Computer Science is designed to produce researchers and academic scholars who work in advanced domains of the Computer Science field.
